Apps that remind you before coupons and gift cards expire
For one or two items, an Apple Reminders or Calendar entry set a few days before the date is enough. For a drawer full of coupons and gift cards, a tracker that stores each expiry date and reminds you automatically is worth using. VizKeeper reads the expiry date off a screenshot or photo, reminds you before it passes, and moves expired items to a separate shelf.
How to choose
The reminder itself is simple. What decides whether you actually use an app is the work to get each coupon in. Compare on these:
- Entry effort: do you type the date, or does the app read it from a photo or screenshot?
- Reminder timing: one alert, or a choice such as a week and a day before?
- Balance and barcode: can you see the remaining value or show the code at checkout?
- Where data lives: on the phone, iCloud, or a company server.
- Cost and maturity: many apps in this category are small and new, so check ratings and recent reviews.
The options
Apple Reminders or Calendar
Best for: a handful of items and zero new apps. Create an entry titled with the store and amount, set the date a week before expiry, and attach a photo or a note. It is free and reliable. Limits: you type everything, and the barcode stays in a screenshot somewhere else.
Apple Wallet
Apple's guides describe adding passes by tapping Add to Apple Wallet in an email, app or message, and say that not every pass is supported because the issuer must offer a Wallet version. Wallet can hide expired passes. It is the best place for a coupon or card that already comes as a Wallet pass, but it does not help with a screenshot or paper coupon, and it is not a reminder system you configure.
Gift Card Wallet Manager
Per its App Store listing, you can choose reminders from six months down to one day before expiry; the free version holds one gift card and Premium unlocks more. I did not test the app. It has few ratings, as is common in this category.
Vouchy
Its listing describes storing vouchers, coupons and gift cards with expiry reminders, balance tracking and QR redemption, free to download with in-app purchases. I did not test it either.
Woolly
The listing describes a gift card tracker that stores card numbers, PINs and expiry dates and syncs through iCloud, saying data is kept on the iPhone and in iCloud rather than on a separate server. As with all apps that store card numbers, weigh how sensitive the data is.

Where VizKeeper fits
VizKeeper is an AI organizer for iPhone and iPad from YOMOO LLC, the publisher of this site. For coupons and gift cards, the flow is to save a screenshot, photo or PDF. VizKeeper reads it, files it in the Wallet section, extracts the amount and the expiry date, and sets a reminder before it expires. Gift cards remind you the day before. Expired coupons and passes move to an Expired shelf and are deleted after 30 days; you can turn that deletion off. You can also create reminders from any save, and ask questions about your saves in plain language.
Privacy matters here because gift cards carry numbers. Card numbers, ID numbers and passwords are never sent to AI, cards can be locked so they open only with Face ID, and full card numbers are not shown without it. With Keep everything on device on, nothing is sent to AI services, and answers then come from the saves' own words on the phone and are less smart. When AI is allowed, the provider is Google Gemini.
Limits: it is a general organizer, not a coupon-clipping or deals app, so it will not find coupons for you. It is new, with too few App Store ratings for a score yet. It is iPhone and iPad only, with no Android, web or Mac app. Free covers 100 saves and 10 questions a month; Plus is $3.99 a month or $29.99 a year, with a 7-day free trial on the yearly plan.
Habits that matter more than the app
Add the item the day you receive it, not later. Put the reminder far enough ahead to act, usually a week for coupons that need a trip to a store. Check the issuer's terms: some gift cards do not expire, and some promotional coupons cannot be extended. If you use an app that stores card numbers, keep it locked.
Frequently asked questions
Is there an app that reminds me before a coupon expires?
Yes. Dedicated trackers such as Gift Card Wallet Manager and Vouchy list expiry reminders, and VizKeeper reads the expiry date from a screenshot or photo and reminds you before it passes. A plain Reminders entry also works.
Does Apple Wallet remind me about expiring passes?
Wallet can hide expired passes, but I found no Apple documentation of a general expiry reminder you configure for coupons. For dates you must act on, add a Reminders or Calendar entry.
What happens to expired coupons in VizKeeper?
Expired coupons and passes move to an Expired shelf and are deleted after 30 days. You can turn the automatic deletion off.
Is it safe to store gift card numbers in an app?
Weigh it. Prefer apps that lock cards behind Face ID and say where data is stored. VizKeeper never sends card numbers to AI and does not show full card numbers without Face ID.
