AI receipt and document organizers for iPhone, compared
It depends on whether you need a clean scan, an expense report, or a place where documents are read and filed for you. Adobe Scan and Genius Scan are mature scanners; Expensify is built for expense claims; VizKeeper is a newer AI organizer that files receipts, IDs, tickets and coupons and answers questions about them.
How to choose
Three jobs get lumped together as document organizing, and different apps are good at each.
- Scanning: turning paper into a clean PDF, with edge detection and searchable text.
- Expensing: capturing a receipt and getting it into a report for an employer or accountant.
- Keeping and finding: storing a mixed pile (receipts, warranties, tickets, IDs) so that you can find a fact later and get reminded about dates.
Then check three things about any app: where the reading (OCR) happens, whether sensitive items can be locked, and what the free tier really lets you do.
The options
Adobe Scan
Best for: people who want a polished scanner with a famous name behind it. The App Store listing says it can find documents and receipts in your photo library and convert them to PDFs, turn images into searchable text, and pull contact details from business cards. It also lists tools such as straightening and a magic eraser for shadows and creases. The app is free with in-app purchases; the free OCR allowance is listed as 5 pages, rising to 100 with a purchase. Adobe Scan Plus was listed at $4.99 a month or $19.99 a year, with several Premium options above that, but the listing does not say which feature sits in which tier, so check pricing in the app. Rating at the time: 4.9 out of 5 from about 1.6 million.
Limits: it produces PDFs; it does not build a timeline, set expiry reminders or answer questions about your documents.
Genius Scan
Best for: privacy-minded scanning with plenty of export options. Its listing describes OCR with searchable PDFs, business card scanning, export to services such as iCloud Drive, Dropbox, Google Drive and OneDrive, password-encrypted PDFs and Face ID locking, and says documents are processed on the device. Backup and multi-device sync (Genius Cloud) is a separate subscription. The app is free, with Genius Scan Plus and Ultra subscriptions at several prices; the listing does not state billing periods, so check current pricing at purchase. Rating: 4.9 out of 5 from about 1.4 million.
Limits: like Adobe Scan, it is a scanner and exporter rather than an organizer that interprets what a document is.
Expensify
Best for: expense reports. Its SmartScan reads receipts for claims, and the product is designed around submitting and approving expenses. Its pricing has changed several times and the details are reported inconsistently, including the free allowance and a per-member monthly plan, so read Expensify's own pricing page before relying on any figure.
Limits: it is not a general household document keeper. If you want to store a warranty, a lease and a passport, it is the wrong shape.
Notes and Files
Apple's built-in apps can scan documents into a note or a PDF, are free, and sync through iCloud. Apple Notes also lets you lock a note and open it with Face ID, though a locked note's title stays visible. They do not extract amounts or dates for you.
AI organizers
This newer category reads the document, names it, files it and lets you ask questions. VizKeeper is one example.

Where VizKeeper fits
VizKeeper is an AI organizer for iPhone and iPad from YOMOO LLC, the publisher of this site. You save screenshots, photos, PDFs, voice notes (transcribed on the device) and links. It reads them, names them and files them into Library sections such as Receipts, IDs, Wallet and Trips, and extracts dates, amounts and names. You can ask a question in plain language and get an answer that cites the save. Coupons and gift cards get expiry reminders, and expired ones move to an Expired shelf and are deleted after 30 days unless you turn that off.
Privacy: card numbers, ID numbers and passwords are never sent to AI, cards and IDs can be locked behind Face ID, and full card numbers are not shown without Face ID. If you switch on Keep everything on device, nothing is sent to AI services; answers then come from the saves' own words on the phone and are less smart. When AI is allowed, the provider is Google Gemini.
What it does not do: it is not an expense-report or accounting tool, and it is not a scanner with the export depth of Adobe Scan or Genius Scan. It is new, with too few App Store ratings for a score yet, and it has no Android, web or Mac app. Free is 100 saves and 10 questions a month; Plus is $3.99 a month or $29.99 a year, with a 7-day free trial on the yearly plan.
A sensible split: scan a contract with a dedicated scanner; use Expensify if an employer needs a report; use an organizer if the real pain is finding the receipt or warranty six months later.
